STEM it with Math

STEM it with Math
The path to Math is Sweet!!!

This is how we were greeted at the "MATH MELA" held by GBMS school in South Mumbai.

STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The new concept being used to make learning easy, fun and practical. STEM prepares you to be creative, explore all possibilities, challenge your own solutions, think out of the box and build some amazing creations. Understanding science with some practical experiments, or teaching some math concepts through art, or using simple games to teach computers, or using household objects to build some great edifices.

The Indian Education System has adopted to this whole new approach to teaching. The school children have brilliantly portrayed the association between Math and History, Art, Literature, Science, Geography and so on.

Each team of student was given a topic (age related) in Math.

They were suppose to create something that would make the topic easy and fun to understand.

First imagine what they wanted to create.
Then decide on a plan to approach it.
Start creating what was planned ( Be as Creative as Possible)
Improvise and troubleshoot along the way.
Create a draft.
See if the Message is being conveyed clearly.
Make their final creation.

There was a great deal of self research, loads of reading and understanding, lots of trial and error, tons  of questions along the way and a substantial amount of doing and undoing involved in the process.

The final result was the "MATH MELA".
The outstanding creations were all displayed together under one roof, at the GBMS MATH MELA.
Schools were invited to view this colorful and creative teacher student commemoration.

Math and the Barter System: Centuries old system that was used to trade before money was invented.
where goods and Services were exchanged to fulfill the needs of people.

Math being connected to History: This how the evolution of money took place. Different shapes, sizes, denominations and the various metals used to mint the coins.

Automated Teller Machines: the infamous banking outlets that makes withdrawing money easy and efficient. It sure may be difficult to get lower denominations from the Indian Nationalized ATM's currently, But these ATM warriors are sure to treat you with 5's  and 10's.

Wanna travel during Winters!!! It surely can get confusing for kids to learn exchange rates. This chart makes sure travel is budgeted by your children this time!

Fractions all the way!
Yummm Pizza, chocolates, cake and sandwiches. Wait a second!!

Nobody's gonna get a bigger piece than the other. We believe in sharing equally. Never new learning Fractions on picnic was so much fun!!!

Evolution of Time:
Still can't believe there were no clocks in the earlier times. Imagine deciding time just looking at the positions of shadows, or hour glasses, pendulums, candle clocks, water clocks and incense clocks.

Trigonometry needed for measuring angels and directions.

Fact: Ancient Egyptians used Trigonometry to built Pyramids.

A truly wonderful experience. Outstanding efforts from the entire school. Would definitely want to encourage more of such creative events.

STEM your way into education!!!!!
